How to add freon to a car

Air Conditioning

  1. Find the low pressure side port. It's usually on the left side of the engine bay, behind the firewall. It's a small section of metal pipe with two rubber hoses coming off each end.
  2. Connect the refrigerant to the port. Screw the dispenser hose and gauge onto the can of refrigerant. Pull back the outer slip ring, push it on, and release the ring.
  3. Slowly add Freon to the system.
  4. Check the pressure so you don't overfill.
  5. Check the air conditioner to see if it's blowing cold air.
Most cars hold between 28 and 32 ounces of refrigerant, that is about 2 cans of Freon.
